Victim or Victor? You are the One who must choose!

In today’s world, the unfortunate reality is that there is no one coming to save you, you are on your own. So, you can either choose to rely upon others including the police for your protection or you can choose to protect yourself. With the proper mindset, tactics, and skills, an individual can avoid or counter a situation that endangers you or your loved ones.

There have been a number of terrorist attacks in the last quarter of 2015, including the high profile incidents in Las Vegas, Paris and San Bernardino. The fourteen victims of the San Bernardino terrorist attack, shown above, were murdered by their co-worker and his wife. The husband and wife terrorists had planned this attack for nearly two years. Unfortunately, nobody at their office party was prepared to deal with a deadly threat which allowed the terrorists to kill at their discretion.

Current events indicate a steady increase in terror-related attacks against westerners. Violent extremists and other savages are actively targeting (us)… This trend will likely continue for the foreseeable future.” – John Farnam

What can you do to acquire the proper knowledge, methods and techniques, to enable you to avoid or counter a situation that endangers you or your loved ones? Start with your mindset. Determine that you will not be a passive victim, but an active participant by ending the fight or getting away from the attackers. Acquire the proper mindset, tactics and skills by taking courses from good trainers.

What kind of threat may we be up against? More often the active shooter or terrorist will be wearing body armor and be carrying more than one weapon including a rifle or some kind of IED. You goal will be to stop the threat as quickly as possible before they can act against you. They will be surprised to encounter resistance! Interrupting their plan and forcing them re-initialize their OODA loop will give you the advantage

What difference will one person with a handgun make against terrorists or an Active Shooter? In every case of an Active Shooter in the United States, when the shooter runs into armed resistance the incident ends with them taking their own life or the good guy ends the fight. Against terrorists, acting quickly with accurate gunfire will stop their attack and end the threat.

What should I carry?
– High capacity semi-automatic pistol, make an Informed Choice before you Buy!
– At least two spare magazines
– Good quality blade
– Cell phone (did you charge it before leaving home?)
– Flashlight
– Tourniquet and combat bandage (are you trained in their use?)
– Access to a rifle
– The contact information of your lawyer and your membership card for the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network

What skills can I start practicing today? Improve your shooting accuracy. In most training the emphasis is on hitting the torso, because it’s the largest area of the body with vital organs. Its likely the active shooter will be wearing body armor, so it’s important to be able to hit the smaller targets such as the brain stem or their extremities. While the brain stem is the primary target, injuring their arms, hands, legs, or feet will at least debilitate them which will either slow down or end the fight. On the range, use a 4×6 box. Start at 3 yards and work your way back to 25 yards. The closer you are the more rapidly you can fire, the further away the slower you must fire to get good hits. Accuracy is most important above all else! If you miss you are endangering innocent victims and giving the threat the opportunity to shoot you. Improve your physical condition. Whatever you prefer to do to be in better shape will help you in a fight. Practice! In addition to practicing on the range, you can take advantage of dry practice to ensure your presentation of the gun and your first shot can be done quickly and accurately. Dry practice is free! The only thing you need to spend, is your time.

What should I do if I encounter an active shooter or terrorist? If you can get to a relatively safe place, Communicate! Call 911. Even before the operator answers, the system is recording the call. Tell them what you see. Where the bad guys are. What do the shooters look like? How many actors are involved? Describe who you are, what you are wearing, and where you are so that the police will know you are not the threat. Use Cover or concealment! If they can’t see you they can’t shoot you. If there is an open floor plan, get to the level above the shooter. Turn your body, look behind, above and below. Most people have practiced in a 2D environment and will not look the full 360 degrees around them. Treat every situation as if there is always one more bad guy than what you’ve already seen. When necessary, use the superior skills you’ve practiced to shoot quickly and accurately to end the threat.

Why do I need access to a rifle? A rifle is a much more effective tool than a pistol. You may not be able to carry it, but you can put one in your vehicle. If you get to your rifle and the fight is still in progress, you will be able to stop the threat more easily with it. The terminal ballistics of your rifle will stop the threat more quickly and at longer range. That being said, if you have reached your rifle and you are no longer threatened, it would not be in your best interest to go chase after the bad actors to stop them. My suggestion is that if you have family that requires rescue, only then would I personally recommend you re-engage the bad guys. Once you and your family are clear of danger, leave immediately.

Be Above Average! Your chance of success in a fight for your life is greatly enhanced with formal training and practice. Without it the likelihood of prevailing in a fight is greatly diminished. A permit to carry course does nothing to prepare you to act quickly and shoot accurately to end a lethal threat. Whether you choose to train with me or one of my competent colleagues is not as important as making sure you just do it!

You are the One who has to decide to act, to choose whether or not to be the Victim or Victor. You can either passively wait to be murdered or you can fight back! Have a plan on what to do when you engage in the fight for your life. Get yourself trained so you can acquire the mindset, tactics and skills you need to prevail in a terrorist attack. Don’t put yourself in a position where you are at the mercy of the terrorist who has only one goal, to kill you.
